FC Den Bosch heeft een overeenstemming bereikt met Manchester City over de verhuur van Luke Mbete. De 19-jarige centrale verdediger wordt voor één seizoen gehuurd van de Engelse topclub. Mbete maakte in september 2021 zijn debuut voor het eerste elftal van Manchester City in een wedstrijd om de League Cup. Hierna maakte hij nog minuten in de FA Cup én in de Champions League. Vorig seizoen werd Mbete verhuurd aan Huddersfield Town in het Championship en aan Bolton Wanderers in de League One. Hiervoor was hij een vaste waarde voor Manchester City O21, waarmee hij tweemaal de Premier League voor jeugdteams won. Luke Mbete debuteerde ook al voor het nationale beloftenelftal van Engeland.
Luke Mbete: “Ik heb voor FC Den Bosch gekozen vanwege het sportieve plan wat hier ligt. Ik heb gesproken met de trainer en technisch manager. Het plan wat zij mij lieten zien sprak me meteen aan. Er is hier iets positiefs gaande, wat in combinatie met hard werk een speciale transitie kan creëren. De ploeg wil goed voetbal spelen met een hoge intensiteit. Dat ligt mij goed. Ik ken Dennis Gyamfi al van vroeger. Hij vertelde me veel positieve verhalen over de club, ook over hoe fanatiek de supporters hier zijn. Ik kijk er naar uit om hier op het veld te staan!”
Yousuf Sajjad: “We zijn erg blij dat Luke op huurbasis naar ons komt dit seizoen. Hij is een speler wiens ontwikkeling ik al een aantal jaren van dichtbij volg. De positie centraal achterin was cruciaal om ons op te versterken. Toen we de opties bekeken, stond Luke als nummer 1 bovenaan ons lijstje voor deze positie. We zijn blij dat het nu rond is en we hopen op een succesvol seizoen samen.”

LUKE MBETE JOINS FC DEN BOSCH ON LOAN
FC Den Bosch and Manchester City have reached an agreement for the signing of Luke Mbete. The 19-year-old center back joins on a season long loan. Mbete debuted for City’s first team in September 2021 against Wycombe Wanderers in the league cup. He has also debuted in the FA Cup and Champions League for Manchester City. Last season Mbete played on loan for Huddersfield in the Championship and Bolton Wanderers in League One. He has also won the Premier League 2 twice with Manchester City’s U21s and made his debut for England U21s.
Luke Mbete: “I decided to join FC Den Bosch because of their vision. I spoke to the manager and technical director and felt aligned with their plans. There’s something positive happening here, which combined with hard work can create a special transition. The team wants to play good football with high intensity. That fits me. I knew Dennis Gyamfi already. He told me a lot of positive stories about the club, also about how passionate the fans are over here. I’m looking forward to be on the pitch!”
Yousuf Sajjad: “We are really pleased for Luke to be joining us this season. He is a player I have personally followed the progress of very closely in the last few years. The CB position was a key area for us to add. When we analysed the options, Luke was our number 1 target for this position, so we are glad to get this over the line.
